Built To Spill and Disco Doom at Barrymore Theatre

Built To Spill is a reluctant, stubborn band: Frontman Doug Martsch has been heralded as a guitar god of sorts, even though he downplays his prowess at layering melodic, sinewy walls of buoyant and bright guitar. Martsch is resistant to even acknowledge Built To Spill has an identifiable sound—even going so far as stating that the band should have a revolving lineup at all times to ensure that. Although BTS' lineup has stayed mostly the same since forming in 1992, minus a member or two, so has its sound—and that's good. The band's last album, 2006's You In Reverse, proved to be a punchy return tour de force after five years away, and the upcoming There Is No Enemy should confirm it.
