Songwriter Stephen Kellogg's most recent album with his band The Sixers, The Bear, finds his work leveling out at an agreeable middle. While Kellogg and band as a whole aim to sound like a smoother Bruce Springsteen or Tom Petty, and certainly with far less weight and personality, they've also gone this long without getting as treacly or half-assed as many other groups in this mild, constrained territory. In fact, Kellogg still finds room in said territory for tasteful arrangements and mature-enough songwriting, though the abundance of clichés still keeps it from quite standing out.
