Being at the geographical center of Europe seems a meaningless distinction—when you think about it, Europe's a rather odd, cobbled-together landmass with big-ass Russia throwing off its balance. But it turns out plenty of European locales are jockeying for this honor anyway, and in 2004's The Center, Polish documentarian Stanislaw Mucha and crew set out on a gonzo journey to test out the claims, which are spread out across 2,000 miles. As he travels from Germany to Ukraine, Mucha quickly finds more to talk about than just the slightly asinine question at the film's, uh, center. The real pleasure of the film lies in meeting the cast of local weirdos Mucha encounters along the way, uncovering their stories and wildly varied points of view.
