Cobra Starship, The Friday Night Boys, Plastiscines, and DJ Skeet Skeet at Orpheum Stage Door
Cobra Starship cropped up as part of the marketing campaign for horror-comedy flick Snakes On A Plane, a movie that was neither funny nor scary. Fronted by Gabe Saporta, formerly of New Jersey pop-punk outfit Midtown, Starship apparently never got the memo that Snakes was a colossal flop: After 2006’s While The City Sleeps, We Rule The Streets, Starship followed it up with 2007's ¡Viva La Cobra! and the new Hot Mess, which features Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester on the song “Good Girls Go Bad.” None of it rises above the level of vapid and dull, but then, Cobra Starship is clearly not aiming for high art here—hardly a surprise considering the context of the band’s birth.
