The Cool Kids and Fresh Cut Collective at Majestic Theatre
Chicago hip-hop duo The Cool Kids stirred up a lot of chatter (and played a lot of fun shows) before putting out last summer's The Bake Sale, thanks to their almost-goofy combination of playfully cocky rhymes and bare-bones yet gratifying beats. Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks are prime examples of a recent crop of rappers who've rediscovered the superficial but innocent pleasures of stuff that isn't quite bling—like tooling around the neighborhood on your sweet-ass bicycle in the single "Black Mags." It's a part of the genre that the preachy "real hip-hop" crowd likes to pretend doesn't exist, but stuff this catchy and assured is and always has been great to have in the mix.
