Daniel And The Lion and The Skin Of Our Teeth at High Noon Saloon
Madison duo Daniel And The Lion took some cues from Bon Iver on a couple of recent EPs—Secret Stuff and Handmade—putting plenty of warm room-sound around Jimmie Linville's soft crooning and Daniel Pingrey's marimba and piano. The two have even taken some press photos amid snow and barren trees. These touches don't mask the actual songwriting, which is of a more cheery, less subtle variety: They manage to genuinely sound like nice guys who can write decent melodies, just not like nice guys who've been holed up in a cabin turning into musical geniuses. They're moving to Chicago soon, but at this show they'll be breaking out some new tunes to record a DVD entitled These Wisconsin Songs.
