The Annex

1206 Regent St.
Madison WI 53715

18+ $15/$18
  • Wed Nov 11 9 pm,
Digable Planets, Butterfly And Doodlebug, Dumate, Gary Knowledge, and The Mighty Joe White at The Annex
“Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat)”, the iconic hit single from Digable Planets’ 1993 debut Reachin’ (A New Refutation Of Time And Space) introduced the trio of Butterfly, Doodlebug, and Ladybug (who will not be joining this reunion tour) as hip-hop’s coolest quasi-beatniks, hep cats who named themselves after insects, sampled cool old jazz records, and oozed Bohemian chic. 1994's more political and incendiary Blowout Comb failed to match its predecessor's success but has gone on to attract a cult following. The group announced a reunion out of nowhere in 2005, to be followed by a compilation of hits and unreleased material (Beyond The Spectrum: The Creamy Spy Chronicles) and a new album—but the latter has yet to arrive.
