DJ / Rupture, Max Justus, and Brook The DJ at The Annex

For a guy who often wrangles three turntables at once and reaches across hip-hop, ambient, Middle Eastern music, and many genres of Latin music, DJ /Rupture is good at not getting ahead of himself. While he mixes and matches far-flung sounds as if they were the most natural fits in the world, Rupture clearly has a nerdy love for all his source material, and the mixes on last year's Uproot really let everything breathe, from exotic vocal lines to the solid beats holding it all together. His earlier efforts, like 2002's Gold Teeth Thief, were more dense and driving, but a bold and eclectic touch has always been Rupture's signature.
