Dog Sees God: Confessions Of A Teenage Blockhead at Bartell Theatre
To say Out!Cast Theatre’s Dog Sees God is a simple re-imagining of Charles Schulz’s iconic Peanuts gang as 18-year-olds is not only a understatement, it does gross injustice to the play’s perverse creativity. This wholly unauthorized take on Peanuts kicks off with “CB” putting his beagle to sleep because he caught rabies and killed a “little yellow bird.” From there, the pensive CB sets out to find life’s meaning, and has to deal with his stoner-philosopher friend Van (Linus), the homophobe neat-freak Matt (Pig-Pen), and the effeminate Beethoven (Schroeder). Dog Sees God is bitingly funny, but it also takes a violent turn when CB strikes up a friendship with Beethoven that may or may not be romantic.
