Drunk Drivers, Skintones, and The Book Of Right On at The Frequency
Minneapolis quintet The Book Of Right On is fronted by former Belles Of Skin City leader David Joe Holiday, and continues his mission to bring smart, bold, polyrhythmic punk to the masses. The approach is quite similar to that of the undeservedly unheralded Belles, who broke up after releasing just one brilliant EP and full-length: multiple percussion and vocal lines interweaving; a strongly anchoring, growly bass; and discursive, multisyllabic lyrics that are simultaneously earthy and filled with sly, ironic wit. Other than the jaunty track "Obligatory Jam For The Lady Folk" on its MySpace page, the band has yet to commit anything to the permanence of vinyl or digital encoding, so the live show, for now, is the only way to catch its cracked majesty.
