Electric Six, Aficionado, and Pink Mink at High Noon Saloon
Part disco, part dirtbag rock ’n’ roll, Detroit’s Electric Six has aimed to simultaneously please and offend since the late-’90s. Starting out under the moniker The Wildbunch, the group eventually evolved into Electric Six, with the Freddie Mercury/Richard Cheese-inspired Dick Valentine leading the other pseudonym-heavy members through clever creep-out songs like “Gay Bar” and “Danger! High Voltage.” Valentine and the band followed 2009’s all-caps offensive KILL with 2010’s Zodiac, a record with each of its 12 tracks corresponding to a different astrological sign. The band hasn’t made it clear which song goes with which sign, though it’s a safe bet the sleazy, Courtney Love-alluding “Jam It In The Hole” isn’t the track for Virgos. The band put out Heartbeats And Brainwaves in 2011 and has plans to record and release a live album in 2012.
