The Expendables, Iration, Passafire, Pour Habit, and Roots Down Below at RSR Stage
Laid-back, sun-drenched, good-time grooves: Sounds like a music snob’s version of hell. But it’s hard to find anything particularly bash-worthy about The Expendables’ anemic reggae and sub-Sublime frat rock. Free of pretension, coolness, and any idea of what The Velvet Underground was, the Santa Cruz group has spent years building a fan base. The Expendables’ most recent disc, a self-titled full-length released in 2007, is a geeky yet muscular mix of skank-ready rhythms and old-school pop-punk perfectly suited for dudes who still rock goatees and chain wallets.
