F. Stokes, Psalm One, Toki Wright, JDante, DJ Vinnie Toma, and DJ Dr. Funkenstein at Majestic Theatre
The only bummer about Chicago rapper Psalm One is waiting for her to follow up 2006's great debut for Rhymesayers, The Death Of Frequent Flyer. Everything else about her work so far is exciting, especially her cunning rhyme skills: She's equally funny, cocky, and frank about growing up as a "chubby girl" in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood and balancing music with her post-college day job working as a chemist. Psalm One recently put out the web-only single "Better Than My Last" to tease Woman@Work, a full-length set due to drop at last in May. She returns to Madison to share a bill with the equally likeable and heartening MC F. Stokes, who bounces around a lot lately while using Madison as an occasional home base.
