Foreign Born, Free Energy, and CLOVERS at The Frequency
Foreign Born has long been pegged as the next rightful heir in a lineage of anthemic bands stretching from U2 to Arcade Fire. While last year's Person To Person still lacks the breakout epic that catapults bands from respected (Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste is a vocal fan) to revered, its ambitious sweep is stunning all the same, a sparkling, panoramic pop view of California with every peak, valley, and rolling wave lushly realized. Philadelphia band Free Energy's thrusts of classic-rock grit and power-pop glitter have already drawn international attention thanks to the imprimatur of LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy, who produced the group’s debut—due out next week—for his heavyweight indie label, DFA Records.
