Gabriel Iglesias at Barrymore Theatre
Many hefty comedians milk their own fatness for laughs, and so does Gabriel Iglesias, who's made a whole campaign out of referring to his body as "fluffy." The rising stand-up and former Last Comic Standing contestant's mutli-chin serves as a launching pad for a squeaky, shrieky array of silly voices and noises. He's a competent performer with some clever-enough material, including a story about making a "racist gift basket" for a black comedian friend, but the Stay-Puft comedian's appeal mostly lies in the wearying hyperness that's come to weigh down so much of the comedy world these days. Iglesias' new Comedy Central special, I'm Not Fat... I'm Fluffy, airs and drops on DVD next month.
