Good Old War, The Belle Brigade, and Family Of The Year at High Noon Saloon
It’s all well and good for present-day bands to cue up some dusty Americana, especially when they sing harmonies as nicely as Philadelphia trio Good Old War. On the other hand, they might as well be honest with themselves and bring along some of the more modern pop melodies they grew up with. GOW’s debut, Only Way To Be Alone, found a pleasant balance between the two sides, neither skimping on the old-time percussive kick of acoustic guitars nor sweeping its love of hummable choruses under the ol’ bearskin rug. Its self-titled 2010 follow-up and the new Come Back As Rain continue in that vein, drawing favorable comparisons to acts like Fleet Foxes and Band Of Horses.
