The Gracious Few and American Bang at Majestic Theatre

When Neil Young first predicted that "rock 'n' roll can never die," even he surely couldn't have foreseen American Bang. The Nashville quartet's slavishly authentic, terrifically riffed debut EP, Move To The Music, is a straight-faced paean to the titans of '70s classic rock, most notably the three Fs: The Faces, Foghat, and Free. A tour with ZZ Top seems to have whipped the band into shape, and a deal with Reprise was inked. But if "Wild And Free," the advance single from the band's upcoming, self-titled full-length is any indication, what made the band special has already been bled out of them: The song is a slab of pure, 21st-century guitar-anthem bombast that bears scant resemblance to the soulful, strutting golden age of hard rock. In fact, remove the yelping snarl of frontman Jaren Johnston, and "Wild And Free" might as well be a David Cook song.
