Great Lake Swimmers and The Wooden Birds at Memorial Union Rathskeller
Though it never received the recognition enjoyed by fellow slowcore outfits like Low and Red House Painters, The American Analog Set was arguably one of the genre’s finest entities, producing a decade of slow-moving masterpieces before shutting things down following 2005’s Set Free. Leader Andrew Kenny has been focused on his new Wooden Birds project, which takes his old outfit’s gentle pop and gives it a more singer-songwriter spin. Here, he opens for Ontario’s Great Lake Swimmers, returning behind their latest album of distinctly stark and atmospheric acoustic-folk-bluegrass reveries, last year's Lost Channels.
