Halestorm, Janus, Halo, and Madam Adam at Majestic Theatre

Pennsylvania band Halestorm’s chunky guitars and pre-cranked-up production certainly reflect the modern-rock bands it’s toured with (Trapt, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.), but the deciding factor here is singer Elizabeth “Lzzy” Hale. Pitched somewhere between Kelly Clarkson and old-school Jon Bon Jovi, her voice ties together a straightforward, sexed-up pop-metal hybrid on the band’s self-titled Atlantic Records debut. With tunes like “Bet U Wish U Had Me Back,” “Dirty Work,” and “I Get Off,” Hale gets to be the semi-empowered, gloating sex symbol while the band bangs out chugga-chugga hooks and even some power ballads. While it’s a re-shuffle of some pretty worn-out formulas, Halestorm at least stands out as focused and energetic amid an increasingly dead-eyed hard-rock mainstream.
