Someday a fiery revolution will separate untold numbers of young singer-songwriters from their acoustic guitars and drizzly sweet voices, but Haley Bonar should be among those spared. It takes time to cuddle up to Bonar's 2008 album, Big Star, but there's a maturing songwriter at work under its demure hush. Bonar's self-effacing, breathy delivery makes for subtle turns of mood, from the sassy pop of "Something Great" to the slow-burning lament "Green Eyed Boy." Bonar recently moved from the Twin Cities to Portland, but has kept up her Midwestern ties: Here, she'll be sharing new songs with help from a couple members of Andrew Bird's band.
