Here Come The Mummies at Majestic Theatre

Mummified remains, boner comedy, and funk music rarely walk the earth together. Yet Here Come The Mummies’ stubborn refusal to ever relent on the schtick of being a large funk-ska-rock band dressed up as mummies tossing off perverted jokes, like “pink banana” and “wearing out the sideways frown,” threatens to unravel even the most patient novelty music fans. But on the band’s recently released fourth album, Carnal Carnival, the groovy ghouls deserve credit for perfecting their hyper-produced, primetime television soul, masking the handjob jokes in slightly more subtle songs like “Stroke Of Midnight,” and staying committed to a gimmick that should have been entombed thousands of years ago.
