The Hood Internet at High Noon Saloon
The Hood Internet is a Chicago mash-up duo best known for its compelling juxtaposition of rap and indie-rock, and a steady stream of remixes and jam-packed mixtapes have served to highlight the group’s ravenous musical appetite. Stylistically, the recent Mixtape Volume Four follows suit with the pair’s past releases, segueing dozens of the group’s mash-ups. Highlights include a tense blend of Isaac Brock’s vocals from Modest Mouse's “Float On” over the sped-up groove from Kanye West’s “Paranoid,” a busy, aggressive mix of Amanda Blank and VEGA (“No Reasons To Like You Better”), and a marriage between Beastie Boys and Matt And Kim that recalls the veteran New York hip-hop act’s playful side. The Hood Internet has remained a studio phenomenon for the most part, but recent dates have revealed the act’s live iteration to be just as danceable as a frequent point of comparison: Girl Talk.
