Improv Music Series: The Weather Duo at Project Lodge
Embracing a strain of music that people variously call "free jazz," "creative music," or just "improvised music," The Project Lodge recently launched a series of monthly shows that bring in improvisers from the jazz and experimental-music realms. More surprisingly, said music can work quite well in this space. This month's installment features Madison's The Weather Duo, in which upright-bassist Ben Willis and cellist Pat Reinholz attempt to put a cosmic tear in chamber music, letting the outside influences of jazz and electronic music come into play. The series returns on the first Thursday of each month, and will incorporate players not just from Madison, but also from Chicago's jazz/creative/improv/whatever-you wanna-call-it scene.
