International Festival at Overture Center for the Arts - Overture Hall Lobby
Another annual testament to the homegrown musical variety that Madison takes for granted on a daily basis, International Festival fills up the Overture Center's various spaces with a global flag-parade of sounds, mostly courtesy of Dane County performers. It's not all strictly musical, either: More exotic performances include "Traditional Taiwanese glove puppetry" and Roots Of Brazil, who draw inspiration from dance-sport hybrid capoeira. Of course, local standbys like Cajun Strangers and klezmer goofballs Yid Vicious will be on hand, but the afternoon's busy schedule makes it easy to wander between different rooms and check out everything from Greek dance to Bulgarian folk music to "traditional Chinese lion dance." The festival is free except for a ticketed performance by Chicago Mexican-music guardians Sones De Mexico in the Capitol Theater ($12, 4 p.m.).
