Jason Collett, Bahamas, and Zeus at Majestic Theatre
Even when he lays on the Dylan-borrowed rasp a tad thick, Toronto singer-songwriter Jason Collett never comes off like a ham. Among his saving graces is that he grasps the dopey, playful tendencies of his soul and folk influences—maybe even more keenly than their brooding side. Some of his finest moments arise from simply letting loose like on "The Slowest Dance," from 2010's both modest and ambitious album Rat A Tat Tat. Collett is also a member of Broken Social Scene, which is most obvious in his knack for locking catchy vocal melodies to pleasantly frazzled arrangements. On his current tour, Collett shares the stage with his Toronto buddies Zeus and Bahamas, taking turns with solo and collaborative takes on their songs.
