  • Fri Nov 13 10 pm,
Jeremiah Nelson And The Achilles Heel, Blackwell Beauties, and Moxie Motive at The Frequency

Singer-songwriter Jeremiah Nelson has dabbled in a few different sounds since he moved to Madison a few years back, from low-key pop production to acoustic honky-tonkin' at a regular Tuesday gig at Mickey's. The material usually held up even as the setting and presentation changed, but Nelson might do it more justice on the record he's working on with The Achilles Heel, which consists of the drummer, bassist, and lead guitarist from Madison band Blueheels. This setup still lets Nelson settle into some plaintive roots-rock, but not to the lulling effect of last year's album Take Me Down The Interstate. Instead, the pugnacious drumming, melodic basslines, and busy guitar leads—and even some snappy time-signature changes—push him to bite a little harder, too.
