This holiday-time hip-hop showcase seems to approach the music from two opposite poles. DJ Pain 1 might be able to jump from reggaeton to indie-rock remixes to making beats for rappers like Young Jeezy, but he and collaborator MC Starr generally stay rooted in the old-school essentials, whether working separately or as The Fall Guys. Headliner Jesse Lester of the RemedyBornMuzik collective (which has members in Atlanta and the Midwest), on the other hand, croons and Auto-Tunes his way through glittery R&B tracks like "Get U Out This Club." The influence he channels most would have to be R. Kelly, considering how he likes to take a simple lyrical idea and insistently stretch it out: On "State To State," he discourses on sampling and/or admiring women in locales across the continent: "Now we in Phoenix on our way to L.A. / So I can find myself a model and enjoy the day..." and so on.
