Joshua Radin, Gary Jules, and Amber Rubarth at High Noon Saloon
As singer-songwriter Joshua Radin soldiers on and refines his craft, his work seems to be settling onto a mellow plain where the conversation is friendly and engaging, but not likely to provoke any strong reactions. His most recent album of acoustic pop, 2008's Simple Times, pairs Radin's sincere vocals with a pleasantly low-key backing band. Tunes like "Friend Like You" and "Brand New Day" hold about as few surprises as their titles suggest, though the duet with Patty Griffin, "You Got Growin' Up To Do," is certainly a highlight. While Radin never exactly trips over his own feet, it's hard to say that he's taking many risks.
