Julian Marley joins his half-brothers Damian, Ziggy and Stephen in carrying on their father Bob Marley's giant reggae legacy, never straying too far from a musical foundation of weighty rhythms and yearning vocals. Julian's recent solo album, Awake, keeps it familiar while dabbling in production that seems to be inspired equally by roots-reggae and contemporary R&B. It's as if there's a family pact to keep the Marley name respectable by not straying too far from Bob's sound and spiritual vibe: Stephen, who joins Julian on this tour, also played on and helped produce the album.
