Kiritsis at Overture Center for the Arts - Rotunda Stage
Forward Theater Company’s final show of its inaugural season is a staged reading of David Schanker’s Kiritsis, one of the three finalists in the Wisconsin Wrights playwriting contest. The drama is based on the real-life events surrounding Tony Kiritsis, an Indianapolis man who took a mortgage broker hostage in 1977 after the broker foreclosed on his property. Kiritsis paraded the man through the city at gunpoint before unleashing wild rants on live TV and radio. Oddly enough, Kiritsis became a folk hero. It makes some sense, though, when comparing that era’s wars, recession, and government cover-ups to the current-day climate of disenfranchisement.
