Lightning Dust, Flight, and Lookbook at Corral Room
Vancouver psych-rock menace Black Mountain wouldn’t be quite as great without the graceful yet darkly dramatic voice of Amber Webber soaring and trembling through the mix. So that alone makes Lightning Dust, Webber’s project with fellow Mountaineer Joshua Wells, worth checking out. Webber really takes the lead in Lightning Dust, often accompanied just by simple, subdued arrangements of acoustic guitars, organ, and piano. The rocking side of Black Mountain is pretty much beside the point here, but the haunting ambience and robust melodies Webber brings to that band should be in full effect at this show. Lightning Dust followed up its spare 2007 self-titled debut album with this year's Infinite Light, which lightens the mood a little without sacrificing the band's somber elegance.
