Local Band Series: Corcovado + Land Of Vandals at Memorial Union Terrace
Corcovado provides a lot of textures in its gentle tunes, both through the use of three acoustic guitars and through four-part vocal harmonies that break apart and interlock during the course of songs. It’s a recipe that works well throughout the band’s latest, Heliotrope, with the added benefit of ambient electronics and good old-fashioned melodica. Land Of Vandals provides some similar melancholy, though of the plugged-in variety, to go with Jentri Colello’s breathy sighs. Formerly known as Flight, and Flatbear before that, the name changes haven’t had much effect on the consistency of the band’s shuddering slowcore approach.
