Lords Of Discipline, Onus, Meth Tooth, and Calevodium at The Frequency
With a whopping 11 years under its belt, Appelton band Onus has stirred up some of Wisconsin’s most ambitious melodic death metal, thanks in large part to the brilliantly intricate riffing and explorative songwriting of guitarists Adam Zellmer and Brian Weber. On its latest EP, November 17th, Onus’ evolution continues with the addition of drummer Matt Belinger, who previously lent his jaw-dropping dexterity to defunct Fox Valley math-rock band Sounds Like Braille. Pummeling blast beats and thrashing guitar leads collapse into Sabbath-esque stomps, as demonic-sounding vocals ripple with surprising clarity. While Onus’ brutal tunes stand tall on their own, we can’t help but hope that the band members will be sporting the corpse paint and gauntlets seen in their MySpace pictures.
