Los Campesinos! and Cymbals Eat Guitars at Majestic Theatre

Most rock bands with boy-girl vocals rely, to some extent, on sexual tension. But the fact that the female role in Los Campesinos! was recently taken over by the frontman Gareth Campesinos’ sister shouldn’t make for any creepiness: The Cardiff band only pouts about love, having gained a following by spouting melodramatic one-liners that could’ve come from a teenager’s LiveJournal. It takes itself a bit more seriously on its latest, Romance Is Boring, but not at the expense of bouncy, shout-along melodies. Seeing as Los Campesinos! has been known to cover a Pavement song or two, the opener here is a natural fit: Cymbals Eat Guitars’ noisy-pretty debut, Why There Are Mountains, owes a big nod to Stephen Malkmus and crew.
