Many Arms and SchnAAk at Revolution Cycles
Philadelphia's Many Arms gestated in a music scene that embraces the technical absorption of jazz alongside the liberated craziness of punk, noise, and indie rock. Guitarist Nick Milevoi somehow finds a melodic path into drummer Ricardo Lagomasino's tricky and at times maddening syncopations, and the live set should thrive on shifts between wandering noodles and blistering outbursts. German guitar-drums duo SchnAAk's jagged math-rock attack might prove at once more aggressive and more fun. Guitarist Mathias Jahnig head-butts straight into walls of down-tuned dissonance as drummer Johannes Dopping splits his kit's personalities between rollicking metal punishment and funky Afro-Caribbean grooves.
