Mercury Players Theatre Benefit at High Noon Saloon
Local theater company Mercury Players has had as diverse a year as any at the Bartell Theatre and at its MercLab warehouse space on the East Side; productions have ranged from an intimate meditation on gay bathroom sex (Tearoom Tango) to a goofy Bible-spoofing musical comedy (In The Beginning). As long as the Merc goes on in that spirit, it's worth sending a modest cover charge its way at this show, headlined by Madison "caburlesque" troupe Foxy Veronica's Peach Pies, which performs campy, often satirical musical numbers with a down-to-the-pasties bodily boldness. Locals The Apologists and The Shabelles open up with a mix of twangy garage rock and giddy power pop before the tassels start swinging.
