Mike Gordon and Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey at Barrymore Theatre
Phish reunited earlier this year, but the years-long lull between gigs wasn’t a silent one. Each of the members went about his own other projects, and among the more prolific was Mike Gordon, the jam band’s buoyant bassist. He toured with the experimentalists in Benevento-Russo Duo, recorded an album with master fingerpicker Leo Kottke, and managed to take his own band around the country last year in support of his latest album, The Green Sparrow. Though young, the members of Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey brought an authentic, thankfully non-ironic slant on jazz to rock audiences on last year’s Lil Tae Rides Again, and gave fans of the genre an even better gift when it offered its newest full-length (and first with its slightly revised lineup), Winterwood, as a free download.
