Mission Of Burma, Surfer Blood, and Turbo Fruits at High Noon Saloon

Mission Of Burma's influence on American post-punk would be hard to overstate. In only four years together in the early ’80s, the original iteration of the Boston band perfected a wiry, nervous style of art-rock that would inspire legions to give their raw punk crunch a tight, cerebral squeeze. Going strong since returning with a 2004 comeback album, the group explores a more atmospheric space on the recent The Sound The Speed The Light. Burma is joined here by Surfer Blood, a heavily buzzing indie band that specializes in walls of fuzz meshed with sing-along hooks. Now that The Shins' warm, amiable sound may be running out of gas, it looks like Surfer Blood might manage to grab the reins of James Mercer's jangly pop caravan.
