Nick Josephs and The Brothers Burn Mountain at High Noon Saloon

It's not always clear what the singer-songwriter types on this bill are going for, but at least they're searching around for something other than the usual folk-rock clichés. Nick Josephs, from Santa Monica, seems to draw inspiration from Neil Young's rugged instrumentation and Jim Morrison's ominous philosophizing, with results that often feel like rough, vague sketches, but maybe that's intentional. The Brothers Burn Mountain are siblings Ryan and Jesse Dermody from Oconomowoc, whose spirited acoustic tunes on their albums Wild Cat Road and The Blood Of A Thousand Clouds lay a little warm, trippy acoustic ambience over rootsy harmonies.
