Oh No Oh My and Pomegranates at The Frequency
The retiring indie-pop of Oh No Oh My’s self-titled debut LP stirred a good deal of blog buzz in 2006. But befitting the bashful protagonists of “Lisa, Make Love! (It’s Okay!)” and “Jane Is Fat,” the band remained relatively quiet as the ’00s closed, only following the shut-in intimacy of its name-making release with 2008’s broader-stroked, brighter-colored Dmitrij Dmitrij EP. Just when it appeared that drummer Joel Calvin’s ill-fated bid at scoring an updated Gatti’s Pizza jingle would be the last new music ever issued by the quartet, news came that it entered Spoon drummer Jim Eno’s Public Hi-Fi to track a new full-length. The band recently finished mastering the new People Problems and scheduled it for a January release, so expect a preview of its ’60s sunshine and gallows humor here.
