Pieta Brown at Stoughton Opera House
It'd be a little deceptive to compare Pieta Brown to her father, Iowa folk legend Greg Brown, though it's clear she's learned from his patient singing and his way of making a sparse acoustic track feel warm. The seven songs on her 2009 EP, Shimmer, which follows her 2007 highlight Remember The Sun, keep up a certain youthful cheer while making it clear that she's matured more than enough in her own right. In fact, except for the fact that she's now on Greg's label Red House records, there's not much about her music that needs to be chalked up to the connection: It's solid folk that comes on with few assumptions and plenty of inviting vibes. In addition to her solo catalog, Pieta has scored such credits as guest vocals on Calexico's 2008 album, Carried To Dust. Expect to hear some new songs at this show from Brown's next album, One And All, due out in April.
