Pretty And Nice and Title Tracks at Memorial Union Rathskeller
Boston’s Pretty And Nice is really neither: Scuzzy, menacing, and leaking fried circuitry, the band buries post-punk hooks under feverish ranting and the trashcan-clang of robotic electro. But there’s a punk band underneath the fast, frenzied indie leanings: Riffs are spot-welded to jerky beats, and the whole sound hinges on a gleeful self-deconstruction that stands up against some of the best dance-punk produced so far. As for actually dancing to Pretty And Nice’s music: Go ahead and give it a shot. But don’t send the band your hospital bills when you dislocate half your body. Washington, D.C.'s Title Tracks' 2010 album It Was Easy soaks ’60s rock in garage-style minimalism. The album's main single, "Every Little Bit Hurts" combines a flirty do-the-twist pop tempo with simple surf guitars and Beach Boys-style reverb over soft vocals, giving the track an unassuming, Elvis Costello-like cockiness.
