The Princess Bride at Memorial Union

More sweet-natured than Rob Reiner’s previous directorial effort, This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride won a devoted cult audience in 1987 with its charming satire of fairy-tale romances. Screenwriting legend William Goldman, who deftly adapted his own darker source novel, has the most fun with the secondary characters—Cary Elwes’ dashing hero Westley is continually upstaged by memorable performances from the rest of the cast, including Wallace Shawn as the shrimpy, egomaniacal Vizzini, the late André The Giant as the innocent hulk Fezzik, and Mandy Patinkin as the vengeful Inigo Montoya.
