Ralphie May was struggling to break into the L.A. comedy scene when he landed a spot on the first season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. May was first runner-up in that competition, but another reality show—Celebrity Fit Club—pushed his career even further. According to his website, the rotund May ballooned to 800 pounds at one point, then had gastric bypass surgery which brought him down to 481. His exertions on Fit Club helped reduce him to a relatively svelte 400 pounds. May, known for a faux-hip-hop shtick based on his impoverished upbringing, favors frank, dirty jokes about race, relationships, and (duh) weight.
