Reptar, Quiet Hooves, and Canopies at High Noon Saloon
The Athens, Georgia-based four-piece indie-pop dance band Reptar is funny. The official video for its single “Blastoff” is a thoroughly confusing and funky drug-addled series of visual puzzles, anchored by a disembodied set of lips à la Rocky Horror Picture Show. The track’s as catchy as it is confusing and, when it’s over, you can’t help but want to listen again. Reptar seems to have honed in on a weird, sunny, loud type of music that straddles aspects of new wave and funk and rock and pop. It’s all banded together by strong, contagious dance-floor beats and this delightfully strange, fun overtone that plays with expectations and keeps listeners interested.
