Rusko and Eliot Lipp at Orpheum Theatre
Rusko has been conquering clubs for years, but recently got his first big break as a producer. The British DJ, born Chris Mercer, corrupts his bouncy bread and butter, dubstep, with crunk-style synths and other stateside trends, leaving an undeniable hip-hop feel to his tracks. This has led to collaborations with big names on the American pop circuit, from Rihanna to Britney, contributing to the distinct dubstep quirk on Top 40 radio. His latest, OMG, was released by Mad Decent in 2010, and Rusko recently released the soul-inflected track “Somebody To Love” in anticipation for a new follow-up, Songs. Rusko is also planning a collab with Cypress Hill, called Roll It, Light It, in 2012.
