Brian Atchison and Neil Olstad’s synth-pop duo Koo Koo Kanga Roo specializes in slinky, mock-serious balladry that’s not only funny as hell, but solid musically too. The obvious comparison is to HBO satirical songwriter/comics Flight Of The Conchords, which is a pretty heavy one to hang on a Minneapolis band with just two albums to its credit. But Koo Koo Kanga Roo’s Animal Death And Other Danceable Favorites and The Everlasting Slumber Party meet that challenge pretty well, with plenty of droll, self-deprecating humor in songs like “Rollin’ In The Minivan” and “Celine Dion.”
