Summer Music Summit: The Hanah Jon Taylor Artet, JoAnne Pow!ers Quartet, The Tom Hamer-Tom Lachmund Duo at Capitol Lakes Grand Hall
The Madison Music Collective's efforts to promote improvised music in Madison should pay off for newcomers to that scene with this introduction to some of the more adventurous jazz musicians hiding out in Madison. Sax and flute player Hanah Jon Taylor (who's also done a great deal of arts educating and organizing behind the scenes in Madison) leads his Artet—pianist Kirk Brown, percussionist Vincent Davis, and bassist Yosef Ben Israel—through the evening's headlining slot, drawing on his considerable background that includes his work with Chicago's Association For The Advancement Of Creative Musicians. Drummer Tom Hamer and sax and bass clarinet player Tom Lachmund team up for the show's opening set.
