Suzanne Vega at Overture Center for the Arts - Capitol Theater

Still the archetype for a folk singer not rooted in a decade before the ’80s, Suzanne Vega has commandeered a restless career since breaking big with “Luka.” She made a comeback of sorts in 2001 with Songs In Red And Gray, which sifts through the wreckage of her divorce from Mitchell Froom, producer of her genre-bending albums 99.9°F and Nine Objects Of Desire. The emotionally invested subject matter found Vega leaning further back on her folk roots, even as she continued to toy with programmed beats and atmospheric sheen. In early 2010, she began to focus on looking backward a little bit, releasing Close-Up Vol. 1: Love Songs, the first in a four-disc series that will reconsider various sides of her back catalog.
