Tracy Nelson, Ben Sidran, and Ben Bullington at Barrymore Theatre
Madison-born singer Tracy Nelson released her first solo album, the folk-blues-influenced Deep Are The Roots, in 1965. As she progressed into the '70s, she shifted her smooth yet forceful vocals to a part-rocking, part-mellow take on the blues (sounding at times like Carole King with more of a taste for blues), first with the band Mother Earth and then in a solo career that runs up to 2007's You'll Never Be A Stranger At My Door. Here, Nelson joins another Madison-connected musician with a long list of credits, keyboardist Ben Sidran, to play a benefit for Madison's Hackett-Hemwall Foundation, an organization that works to provide medical care for the needy.
